Latches, snap locks, slam latches
Latches and slam latches are simple closing devices for covers, panels and containers in machine, plant, aggregate and container construction.
Snap locks are designed for flush installation in doors, shutters, covers, drawers and hatches. With the snap function, the door can be locked securely by simply pushing it shut. Snap locks are used indoors and outdoors in ship and boat building, transport, the packaging industry, medical technology and the automotive industry.
Latches by KIPP
Latches are mechanical devices that are used to securely and firmly connect two objects. They are often used to secure a connection where a high retaining force and quick release are required. The application areas for latches are diverse and depend on the specific requirements of the application. They offer a simple and effective way of joining and attaching objects securely.
Latches usually consist of two main components, the locking mechanism and the catch plate. The locking mechanism can be made up of different elements, including levers, toggles or dead bolts. The catch plate is attached to the object that is to be secured, while the locking mechanism is attached to the other object.
The following latches are available from the KIPP range:
- latches with draw bail
- latches with spring clip
- stainless steel latches acc. to DIN 3133
- adjustable latches
- heavy-duty toggle clamps or with fastening holes (visible and hidden)
Snap locks
Snap locks quickly and easily lock various objects. They offer a convenient solution for e.g. securing doors.
The design of snap locks is particularly suitable for production areas where strong shocks and vibrations occur.
Operation is very simple. Push the door closed and the snap lock latches. The only difference lies in how the individual snap locks are opened.
Snap locks by KIPP can be opened as follows:
- by pressing and twisting
- by pressing and pulling
- by sliding and pulling
- by pulling
Styles and properties
Snap locks differ not only in the method of opening, but also in the various styles. The wide range of models allows for numerous possibilities of use for snap locks as a latching system. Each styles features special properties that are either suitable or unsuitable for the application. You should therefore already draw up an approximate requirement profile before selecting a snap lock.
Snap locks with grip
Snap locks with grip are ideal for thin doors with a door leaf thickness of 0.6 to 1 mm.
They can be fitted quickly and without tools. Simply slide the lock into the cut-out and push it forwards. To open the door, the latch must be pushed to the side and then pulled. The built-in spring returns the lock to its original position, allowing the door to be closed by simply pushing it shut.
Snap locks with fold-down grip
Snap locks with fold-down grip have the advantage that they can be installed flush in objects such as hatches or similar. By folding down the grip it no longer protrudes. The plastic catch is tensioned by a spring, which prevents the door from shaking when subjected to shock or vibration. The snap lock with fold-down grip is also available with an integrated lock. This type of snap lock is suitable for a door leaf thickness of 2 to 22 mm and prevents unauthorised opening of the object.
Snap locks with knob
Snap locks with knobs can be used for a door leaf thickness of 1.2 to 19 mm. Two types are available.
As the knob is flush with the housing, the knob must first be pressed in to pop it out in both versions.
All you have to do with snap locks with knob now is pull on the knob to open the door / hatch. With the snap lock with twist knob, the knob has to be turned before pulling on the knob to open the door / hatch.
To close the door again, simply press it shut. The snap lock latches and the door is securely closed. By pressing on the knob, it moves in until it is flush with the housing.
Slam latches
Slam latches are mechanical devices used to secure and latch doors, hatches or other similar objects. They consist of a locking latch that engages in a recess or catch to prevent the part from moving.
Slam latches by KIPP are available in four operating versions.
- Not lockable
- Lockable with cylinder lock (Euro key 5333)
- Lockable with an 8 mm square key
- Lockable with a 5 mm double lug key (supplied with double lug key)
A double lug key is a special type of key that is often used in mechanical locking systems. It is characterised by its distinctive appearance with two parallel lugs on either side of the key. Precise milling of the lug area creates a unique combination that clearly assigns the key to a specific lock.
In addition to slam latches, this category also includes emergency openers. Emergency openers are special devices developed to open slam latches in emergency situations when normal unlocking is not possible. They are often used to gain quick access to locked rooms.
