Ball lock pins
Ball lock pins are used to join and fasten machine parts and workpieces quickly and easily. The axial lock is released by pressing the push button.
Ball lock pins from KIPP: Quality and reliability for your applications
A ball lock pin is a mechanical connecting element. It is used to securely connect two or more parts together. These can also be quickly detached again, if required.
The ball lock pin is therefore used to simply connect or secure two workpieces. This makes them particularly suitable for applications where rapid assembly and disassembly is required.
Ball lock pins are used in the foodstuff, chemical and aerospace industries. The diversity of the KIPP range enables the pins to be used in other sectors such as machine construction or the automotive industry.
A ball lock pin consists of a cylindrical pin fitted with small balls at its end. The balls at the bottom of the pin are unlocked by pressing a button at the top of the pin. The pin can now be inserted through the appropriate hole. When the push button is released, the balls emerge from their openings again and create a lock through tension.
With features such as high retaining force and easy handling, the ball lock pin ensures secure connections and smooth processes in technical applications. The pin is also available in various sizes, materials and grip options to meet a wide range of requirements.
Advantages of KIPP ball lock pins
Ball lock pins from KIPP offer numerous advantages that make them particularly attractive for many technical and industrial applications. In addition to high quality and easy handling, the pins offer the following advantages:
- Many grip types: KIPP offers pins with a variety of grip types such as T-grips, L-grips, mushroom grips and ring grips. This diversity enables ergonomic and customised handling, adapted to the specific requirements of your application.
- Secure locking: The robust spring mechanism provides the balls with a strong retaining force that ensures a secure connection. This is particularly important in safety-critical applications.
- Wide range of designs: The ball lock pins are available in several different versions. Including lockable types, pins with head-end locking and models with high shear strength. These options offer additional security and functionality for different application areas.

- High retaining force and safety: The pins offer a powerful retaining force and ensure a secure connection, which is very important in safety-critical applications.
- Variety of materials and sizes: The ball lock pins are available in various materials and a range of sizes, offering flexibility in selecting the appropriate product for specific applications.
- Durable and corrosion resistant: KIPP ball lock pins are characterised by a long service life, even in challenging environments, due to the use of high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel.
- Additional products: In addition to ball lock pins, the range also includes push button latches and locking pins, which also ensure quick and secure connections.
Ball lock pins from KIPP
A ball lock pin works in a simple but effective way to securely join two parts together and release them again quickly if required.
How a ball lock pin is operated:
- Inserting the pin: The ball lock pin consists of a cylindrical pin with small balls that sit in holes in the side of the pin. When the pin is pushed into a corresponding hole, the balls are pressed inwards through contact with the hole sides.
- Locking: As soon as the pin is fully inserted through the hole, the balls move into a specific position. In this position, they can no longer be pressed inwards, as they are resting on an inner surface within the pin. This causes the balls to be engaged and hold the pin securely in the hole. This secures the connection and prevents the pin from being pulled out.
- Releasing the pin: To remove the pin again, a button at the other end of the pin is pressed or a ring is pulled. This activates a mechanism that draws the balls inwards. Once the balls are retracted, the pin can be easily pulled out of the hole.
In addition to the standard ball lock pin with grip, pin and push button all made from stainless steel 1.4305, the KIPP rang also has other types of ball lock pin.
In addition to the standard version with pins made of stainless steel 1.4305, the same model is also available with pins made of stainless steel 1.4542. These pins are characterised by their stability. They are suitable for applications where a particularly high shear strength is required.
Where the shear force is stated in the description, this is the theoretical breaking load. These are non-binding guidelines that are stated without taking safety factors into account and excluding any liability.
Standard models, as mentioned above, are limited in length due to the integrated mechanics. By ball lock pins with head end lock the locking mechanism is located directly below the head. This enables models with longer pins to be realised.
Particularly noteworthy is the ball lock pin with plastic grip. The grip and push button are made from thermoplastic, the steel parts are stainless steel. Thermoplastic is a plastic material characterised by high dimensional stability and good chemical resistance. Thermoplastic parts are lightweight and are used in environments where light weight and cost efficiency are important.
In combination with the stainless steel parts, which are characterised by their corrosion resistance and high strength, this version is suitable for applications within demanding environments.
While the main body is available in steel and stainless steel, the other components can be made from aluminium, stainless steel, polyamide, thermoplastic or zinc. While plastic grips are characterised by their low weight, die-cast zinc models stand out due to their higher temperature stability.
You can also use the filter option to select different grip shapes for the ball lock pins. The following grip types are available:
- T-grip
- Grip ring
- With or without head
- With twist knob
- Ball lock pins with L-grip
- Mushroom grip (normal and adjustable)
